Avery ran-over a kid today
I always feel conflicted at play areas. As a father watching his two little girls, I worry about the bigger kids running over or knocking them down. But on the other hand, it's just kids being kids AND my brothers and I were those crazy kids.
Well, as I am watching the girls play I see my worries play out in front of me. It was like time slowed. Avery is running around a giant rubber dinosaur I see two bigger kids playing chase headed right at her in the opposite direction. As if they were timing it, Avery clears the front of the dino right as the big red-headed kid does. SMACK!! Avery never flinches or braces herself for the hit. Her big head slams in to the kids chest as he is nearly a foot taller. Both kids drop. Avery is nearly back standing as the other kids mom and I get there. Avery puts her fingers in her mouth and gives a "did I do that" look as the other kid begins to wail. Between my relief Avery is OK, my excitement that that just happened, and my shock that the bigger BOY was crying, all I could muster was a fist drop and a "Boom!" The mother of the boy didn't approve of my celebration.
